Kimi ni Todoke is the slightly stereotypical story of a girl, Kuronuma Sawako, who is sadly misunderstood. All the time. This is because she looks like Sadako. (You know her. She's the well girl from "The Ring.") The plot is really shoujo - the most popular guy in school (who actually has a good personality) helps her to become more understood, which lets her gain friends. The story follows from there. What I'm really interested in, though, is surprisingly not the yuri (though you could say it had yuri if you wanted to). The best thing of Kimi ni Todoke is Sawako's adorableness factor. Not only is she really nice, she also actually has a spine, even if it only hardens when it comes to defending other people. She's also pretty naive about some social aspects, and her trying to learn to get along with her classmates is pretty funny sometimes. For instance... Well, I'll let you guys watch and judge for yourselves.
I only started reading the manga a few months ago, so I was surprised and pleased to see that the anime was coming out this season. It's currently at ep 7. Comparing the manga and the anime... Hm. The anime is following the manga pretty faithfully, so it's hard to compare. I consider the anime better, but that's only because the lovely Mamiko Noto is voicing Kuronuma, which just makes me go 'SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' sometimes. >_>
As for yuri, what subtext there is is seen in these two:
Chizu-chan is the taller, squinty-eyed, short-haired one, while Yano-chin is the shorter, not-as-squinty, long-haired one. Any yuri between them would definitely be fan-made, since Yano-chin has a boyfriend
Right then! I hope you guys start watching/reading if you haven't already~
